Started at Metro News as a freelancer and was hired as the lead journalist for the Scotts Valley Press Banner (Santa Cruz County), duties I continued after helping launch the Silicon Valley-based Los Gatan newspaper in Los Gatos, California. Contributed articles to the award-winning Good Times Santa Cruz team, as well as Metro Silicon Valley.

Responsible for providing news bulletins about public safety incidents across Orange, Riverside, San Diego and Los Angeles counties.

Sole reporter in two-person Innisfail Province newsroom in rural Alberta, Canada, where I covered sports, local politics and business life for a year. Employed for two years at Glacier Media sister newspaper the Comox Valley Echo on East Vancouver Island, reporting on courts, the environment and health care.
